A new white paper submitted to the UK Space Agency's 2035 Space Frontiers programme proposes a mission architecture called REMORA — short for REndezvous Mission for Orbital Reconstruction of Asteroids. The plan calls for a swarm of autonomous CubeSats to tag, track, and characterize multiple near-Earth asteroids.

REMORA would deploy a fleet of small, autonomous spacecraft designed to rendezvous with asteroids and perform detailed reconnaissance. The CubeSats would operate in concert, using onboard sensors to map surface composition, structure, and orbital dynamics. The architecture emphasizes scalability and cost efficiency compared to traditional single-probe missions.

The proposed timeline targets the 2035 launch window under the UK Space Agency's forward-looking programme. No specific launch vehicle or contractor has been named at this stage. The concept is still in early evaluation, with further technical and budgetary assessments required before any formal commitment.

If realized, REMORA could significantly advance planetary science by enabling multi-target asteroid studies in a single mission. The approach mirrors growing interest in distributed spacecraft systems for deep-space exploration, complementing efforts by NASA and ESA.
