BYD launched the Shark, its first pickup truck in the UK and across Europe, priced from approximately $63,000. The vehicle offers 56 miles of pure-electric range, exceeding Ford’s Ranger plug-in hybrid on EV capability.

The Shark employs BYD’s Super Hybrid plug-in powertrain, blending an electric motor with a combustion engine. The 56-mile electric range targets daily commuters seeking zero-emission driving without range anxiety.

BYD is expanding aggressively into global markets, with the Shark representing its flagship entry into the European pickup segment. The launch follows strong sales of its passenger EVs in Europe.

The company claims the Shark “brings performance far in advance of what can be achieved by traditional diesel pickups,” though European pickup demand remains modest compared to Asia. BYD faces established competitors like Ford and Toyota in the region.

Some analysts question whether the $63,000 price point will gain traction against cheaper diesel and hybrid rivals. European pickup adoption trails other regions, and charging infrastructure gaps could limit EV appeal for commercial buyers.
