Kia has introduced a new all-wheel-drive variant of its EV4 electric hatchback for the European market, pushing the model’s range close to an estimated 350 miles per charge. The automaker positioned the AWD EV4 as a step below the forthcoming GT performance version, focusing on all-weather capability rather than outright speed.

The new drivetrain adds a second motor to the front axle, converting the standard front-wheel-drive platform into an all-wheel-drive system. No specific battery capacity or exact range figures were released, but Kia cited nearly 350 miles on the WLTP cycle — a notable increase over the current FWD model’s rating. The upgrade targets buyers in northern and mountainous European regions where traction and range are priorities.

While the AWD EV4 expands the lineup’s appeal, Kia has yet to confirm pricing or a launch date for the hotter GT variant. The company also hasn't detailed how the dual-motor setup affects cargo space or efficiency compared to the single-motor version. The hatchback competes in a crowded segment against models like the Tesla Model 3 and Hyundai Ioniq 6.

Some analysts question whether the 350-mile range, while impressive, will be enough to sway consumers in a market where charging infrastructure remains uneven across Europe. Others note that Kia’s move to add AWD without a GT badge suggests a deliberate tiered strategy — offering traction without alienating buyers waiting for the performance halo car. The EV4 AWD is expected to arrive in European showrooms by late 2026.
