A 19-year-old influencer in China has announced his admission to top-tier Boston University, with all tuition and living expenses self-funded through online earnings. Zhong Meimei, born Zhong Yusheng, gained fame in May 2020 for videos mimicking female teachers at primary and middle schools.

The influencer's content quickly captivated internet users, building a substantial following that generated income. The announcement highlights the growing economic power of digital creators in China, who can now finance major life milestones through their online activities.

According to the National Business Daily (NBD), Zhong's viral imitation skits launched his career in early 2020. His ability to cover overseas education costs independently marks a significant shift for young Chinese creators.

The development comes amid China's tightening regulations on influencer content and youth online behavior. Critics argue the model may incentivize shallow content, while supporters see it as empowering entrepreneurial talent.

Zhong's journey also underscores resilience: he reportedly overcame an abusive upbringing to achieve his US education dream.
