Rocket Lab has agreed to acquire satellite operator Iridium Communications for $8 billion, marking the company's fifth acquisition. The deal combines Rocket Lab's launch capabilities with Iridium's established satellite network.

The transaction is an all-stock deal valued at $8 billion, according to TechFunding News. Iridium operates a constellation of 66 low-Earth orbit satellites providing global communications services.

Rocket Lab has been steadily building out a vertically integrated space business, offering launch services and spacecraft manufacturing. The acquisition gives the company a major revenue-generating asset in orbit and a direct customer base.

The move signals a strategic shift toward building a diversified space company reminiscent of SpaceX's model, combining launch, satellite operations, and services. It positions Rocket Lab to compete across more segments of the space economy.

Rocket Lab's previous acquisitions include satellite manufacturer Sinclair Interplanetary and solar panel provider SolAero Technologies, among others. The company has launched over 40 missions to date.
