Schneider Electric and Torngat Metals have signed a memorandum of understanding to collaborate on rare earth project development. The partnership targets a fully integrated approach that strengthens long-term supply resilience.

The agreement aligns with growing demand for rare earth elements used in electric vehicles, wind turbines, and defense systems. Torngat Metals holds a significant rare earth project in Canada, a region seen as critical for diversifying supply away from dominant Chinese sources.

Under the MoU, Schneider Electric will provide electrification, automation, and digital solutions to support Torngat's project development. The collaboration aims to streamline operations from extraction to processing, reducing environmental impact and improving efficiency.

Geopolitically, the deal underscores efforts by Western nations to secure rare earth supply chains. Canada has emerged as a key partner in the U.S. strategy to reduce reliance on China, which controls roughly 60% of global rare earth mining and 90% of processing.

While the MoU marks a promising step, no specific financial figures, timelines, or production targets were disclosed. The partnership remains in early stages, with feasibility studies and regulatory approvals still ahead.
