Anthropic has struck a deal with SpaceX for 300 megawatts of compute capacity at the Colossus One data center in Memphis, positioning the AI lab to meet surging demand for its coding assistant, Claude Code. Chief Product Officer Ami Vora announced the agreement Wednesday at Anthropic's developer conference in San Francisco.
The partnership marks a strategic pivot for Anthropic, which had been straining under compute constraints as developers flock to its tools. By tapping SpaceX — which acquired Elon Musk's xAI lab in February — the company gains access to one of the world's largest data centers, housing tens of thousands of NVIDIA GPUs.
Under the deal, Anthropic will tap more than 220,000 NVIDIA GPUs at the Memphis facility. The company is doubling the current 5-hour rate limit for developers on Pro, Max, Team, and seat-based Enterprise plans, and raising rate limits for the Claude Opus API, allowing more inputs and outputs per minute.
For developers, the expanded capacity translates directly into fewer interruptions and faster iterations on complex coding tasks. For Anthropic, the move shores up its competitive standing against OpenAI and other labs racing to secure scarce compute resources.
SpaceX, meanwhile, is aggressively monetizing its GPU infrastructure, signing new deals to sell access to third parties — a business line that could reshape the cloud compute market.
