Teenage Engineering has rolled out its largest software update yet for the EP-133 KO II sampler, a device that continues to evolve well past its launch. OS 2.5 introduces several high-demand features, including audio over USB, selectable sample rates for a lo-fi effect, sample reverse, and an arpeggiator.
The update also adds equal-length autochopping and extends the maximum sample length from 20 to 40 seconds by switching to mono capture. The company has been steadily enhancing the $329 device since its release, each update adding capabilities that rival more expensive gear.
Sample reverse arrives as a notably overdue addition, while the arpeggiator offers new creative potential for repitching sounds. The lo-fi mode lets users degrade audio quality on purpose, a feature that appeals to producers seeking vintage textures.
These improvements further cement the KO II's reputation as a capable music production tool despite its relatively low price point. The update is free and available now.
Some users may find the mono-only extended sampling a trade-off for longer recordings, but the feature set overall continues to grow stronger.
