The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee is going up on the air with a $35,000 ad buy against Democratic congressional candidate Maureen Galindo in Texas, Axios has learned. The spending comes just days before the May 26 runoff in the state's 35th district.
Galindo, a sex therapist who won the Democratic primary in March, has been widely disavowed by her own party over antisemitic remarks. She recently said she wants to convert an ICE facility in her district into a "prison for American Zionists."
The ad targets Galindo's "conspiracies" and "hateful words," highlighting alleged GOP spending to support her and labeling her "MAGA Maureen." The spot contrasts her with opponent Johnny Garcia, a local sheriff's deputy backed by the DCCC who "will fight Trump, not help him."
Some House Democrats had urged the committee to intervene more directly, though a source told Axios the spending was already planned before those conversations. Garcia now faces Galindo in a runoff that will determine who advances to the general election.
Galindo did not immediately respond to a request for comment on the new ad buy.
