Astroscale, a satellite servicing firm, has raised new funding to support its shift from technology demonstrations to a steady cadence of missions. The company aims to build a sustainable business around orbital debris removal and spacecraft life extension.

Financial details of the funding round were not disclosed. The capital infusion is intended to accelerate Astroscale's development of in-orbit services, including rendezvous and proximity operations, as well as debris capture technologies.

The company has previously conducted several high-profile demonstrations, including the ELSA-d mission. With this new funding, Astroscale plans to move toward operational contracts with satellite operators and government agencies.

This growth strategy comes amid increasing demand for space sustainability solutions. The number of satellites in low Earth orbit continues to rise, driving need for active debris removal and satellite servicing capabilities.

While Astroscale progresses, the market for satellite servicing remains nascent and unproven at scale. Competitors like ClearSpace and Northrop Grumman's Mission Extension Vehicle also vie for contracts, and regulatory frameworks for debris removal are still evolving.
