OpenAI CEO Sam Altman has published a detailed blueprint calling for a new social contract to address the threats and opportunities from artificial intelligence superintelligence. In a half-hour interview with Axios, Altman said AI superintelligence is so close and disruptive that America needs reforms on the scale of the Progressive Era and the New Deal.
Altman warns that inaction could lead to widespread job loss, cyberattacks, social upheaval, and machines beyond human control. He identified cyberattacks and biological attacks as the two most immediate threats, saying significant cyber threats requiring mitigation are likely within the next year.
